World of Birds Campaign

World of Birds in Hout Bay is a bird and monkey sanctuary that relies on donations and money collected from entry fees to feed their animals. Instead of a campaign asking for donations, a poster series was created to encourage people to visit the sanctuary and therefore help feed the birds. Illustrations and typography where created cleverly in order for it to be applied successfully for screen printing purposes. To bring the campaign to life, applying a screen printing process, all the posters were made by hand with a using nothing but birdseed and non-toxic glue. These posters were placed in various public spaces in and around Cape Town, to be viewed/photographed/tweeted by passersby. Once out in the world, the seeds would fall off over time, subsequently making the imagery disappear and perfectly illustrating just how life at World of Birds would fade away if the food ran out. My role was to do the art direction, typography, illustrations and design of the posters. ** This project also received a D&AD In Book award in the Graphic Design (posters) category.**

We also saw a need to help them out even more and decided to do a type of guerrilla marketing stunt that would encourage people to help feed the birds – simply by visiting the sanctuary. We recreated our message and images in various public spaces in and around Cape Town.
